My Story

Tom graduated from college in 1991 with a degree in psychology from the University of Texas-Austin.  He knew while in junior year of college that he wanted to go to law school.  However, he had no idea of what he wanted to do or what kind of law he would practice.

He graduated from law school in 1995 with a JD from Thurgood Marshall School of Law in Houston, Texas.  Upon graduation, he still did not know “what type of law do I want to do…“, and just like most of his classmates, he just wanted to get a job.  It was in his first job out of law school with a small law firm in Clear Lake, Texas (25 miles south of Houston) that he was exposed to personal injury law and began representing individuals who had been harmed by others.  Tom knew that is what he would do… help people get their lives back in order after they had been wrongfully injured.

He worked for three different personal injury law firms in the Houston area for about 10 years before opening his own office in 2004. He joined Terry and Kelly in the summer of 2022.
Tom has tried more than 250 cases to verdict in his career.

Why should I hire a board certified attorney?

Less than 8% of attorneys are board certified.

Tom Gehring is a board certified lawyer, which ensures that you have retained an attorney with the highest level of expertise in that particular area of law. Texas has a certification process for legal specialization in 24 different areas of the law. A board certified attorney must have a minimum number of trials, get recommendations from other attorneys and judges, and then pass a six hour exam. Insurance companies are familiar with the attorneys they work with. When you have a board-certified lawyer on your side, these companies recognize that your attorney possesses a remarkably high level of skill and experience in that particular area. Tom has been board certified in personal injury trial law since 2000 and was one of the youngest attorneys in Texas, at just 30 years of age, to achieve that designation.
